Our Story
Matchawell was founded in Los Angeles, California. Our goal is to provide great-tasting, quality matcha that’s easy to understand and affordable. Matcha has a very rich history that is deeply rooted in ceremony, but how we drink matcha today has changed significantly. We hope to be stewards of modernizing matcha in a mindful way that will both keep the rich history alive while helping you create a ritual that’s authentic to you.

Our Matcha
We source all of our certified organic ceremonial grade matcha directly from two regions in Japan, Shizuoka and Kagoshima. Our organic matcha is shade-grown, first harvest, and stone-milled. The term “Ceremonial Grade” has been used pretty loosely, but we want you to know that when we say it, we mean it. Our matcha is pure ceremonial grade — all of our matcha is made with the highest quality tea leaves from the first harvest of every year and stone-milled to perfection.
Respectful and responsible sourcing are at the forefront of our philosophy. We want to ensure that we’re doing good when taking resources from the earth, so that we can enjoy those same resources for generations to come. That’s why we chose organic. The thoughtful approach and care that goes into growing organic tea is unparalleled. It’s not only better for us, but better for the environment.
Meet Our Founder
Growing up, I spent a lot of time visiting my dad in Japan and just getting lost in the culture. I started drinking tea at a young age and have loved matcha ever since I can remember. I noticed that quality matcha was all over Japan, but that wasn’t the case back home in L.A. As matcha was gaining popularity, I was excited at being able to finally find great quality matcha without having to travel thousands of miles. Sadly, that wasn’t the case. I couldn’t find a brand that stood for quality and wasn’t crazy expensive. I was also surprised to find that AAPI founders are underrepresented in matcha brands. I wanted to change all of that, with matchawell.
